Reading japanese is the worst part.

I'm like Mugen(無限) in Samurai Champloo(サムライチャンプルー), I barely can read the hiragana kana 'no' (の), XDDD.

Thats because you play on differetn times as we do.. I usually see at least 2 or 3 LA districts adn maybe 5 Kamadan Districts at peak times in Germany.

/signed for the suggestion. I dont see Japan as having any laws which would prohibit them interacting with other countries as I communicate with companies there nearly every day and I know they are a relatively liberal country to the outside.

Edit:@ MithranArkanere Japanese Written language would be Kenji (Sp?)

actually they have 3 forms of writing....hiragana, katagana and the chinese looking characters are kanji. katagana is for foreign words and if you learned them you can usually sound out what they are talking about, hiragana is for words that they just dont have kanji for but are part of the language. Kanji can be very hard to read as some have lots of different spoken sounds (and once you think you have learned them all you teachers says nope its xxx ).
Yes I lived in Japan for 2 years, never got good at the language as I was an english teacher (they WANTED me to speak english---that's what I got paid to do)...but I did pick up a lot of it while I was there.

either way I hope this gets resolved soon...(and no I dont need a foreign guild tag )

Don't they have access to international districts? So aren't they like, not completely isolated?

But regardless, Anet just had a couple of major events. Like others have said, just be patient.

Hope they do it for GW1 soon and hopefully GW2 will allow players from across the world to interact from the start.

Im all up for it, but i dont see how would charracters with names in Japanese symbols merge with the world that only knows latin charracters?
How would we whisper these people? Invite them to a party? How would we adress them?

"Hey you, Japanese guy! No, not you, the other one! The other other one!"

Have you ever been in a Russian district?

In those cases, you must be the party leader have a free slot in the party. Then target the character you want to whisper to, copy the name from the party invitation text box and paste it in the whisper name text box, and done.

I think over a year ago I asked about the possibility of joining Japanese districs, or to play with Japanese people if I bought the Japan box.

Glad to see this happening.

I'm also studying Japanese and while I don't expect to learn much in game because it would just take too long to translate while playing, I thought it would be great to just hang around and try to understand what players are saying.

I wonder though.. will we be able to type Japanese as with the IME (Input Method Editor), for those that don't know when the IME is activated in Windows, you can for example type with your alphabet "sakana" or "sushi" and the actual kanji-based Japanese word will appear (it's a kind of auto-complete).

I was amazed to see it working inside the game in international districts so far.

Don't know if this will ever get to the DEV's ears but I must say I am very impressed by this feature (and always have been by the quality of GW in general).

To my knowledge, this is one of the few really mainstream games where you could communicate with people from Asia? Am I right? Perhaps that's also possible in other titles from NCSoft (LineAge etc?).

I'm amazed that you can even switch langauges in the game so easily and so fast.

Now onto the Japanese in itself. A lot of it ends up as "katakana" which is a phonetic transcript for borrowed(loan-)words. This is because many of those words come from the game vocabulary and are not really found elsewhere. I wonder if native Japanese translators did the Japanese text? I suppose yes, but you never know.

So yeah to take MithranArkanere's example with Russian player names. Technically if you knew how to pronounce the person's name, say for example "erika" (yes it's Japanese not Nordic), then by typing with the IME you would end up with 恵理香. Well in theory.. have to see if the IME handle people's names and place names well. But the way this works in Japan and on Windows IME is that once you enter the name, it remembers so next time you type "erika" it knows what kanji to use. Did I confuse anyone? I hope I added a little interest to the Japanese version.

PS: on a semi-serious note... do we get jailed if we /yell "democracy!!" in a chinese district ? >_<
